European Canoe Sprint Olympic Qualifiers bring some serious drama

European Canoe Sprint Olympic Qualifiers in Duisburg, Germany, are done and the remaining quotas have been allocated to the fastest paddlers in ten disciplines. The allocated quotas are still unofficial.
Spanish team has been one of the most successful at this European Olympic Qualifiers. Saul Craviotto finished both K2M 200m and K1M 200m in the top position securing his team much wanted place in Rio de Janeiro Olympics. Besides Craviotto who was allocated a quota in K2M 200m together with Cristian Toro, Bence Horvath (HUN) and Manfredi Rizza (ITA) also qualified to Rio de Janeiro in K1M 200m.

Double debut wins in Liptovsky Mikulaš: First European Champion titles for Melanie Pfeifer and Kučera – Batik

The last day of the 2016 ECA European Canoe Slalom Championships in Liptovsky Mikulaš, Slovakia, brought us new names at the top of the European Championships podium. Melanie Pfeifer (GER) won gold medal in women’s kayak final and Tomaš Kučera – Jan Batik (SVK) picked up gold in men’s C2. The last Olympic quota in women’s K1 went to Ukraine and men’s C2 quota to Switzerland.

Slovakia dominates men's C1 event, Czech Republic men's K1 event, Nuria Vilarrubla takes gold for Spain

It has been an intense day of racing in Liptovsky Mikulaš, Slovakia, at the 2016 ECA European Canoe Slalom Championships. There has been joy and disappointment, but we have seen some excellent racing at a very difficult course. Local stars Alexander Slafkovsky and Michal Martikan celebrated a double win in men’s C1, Czech kayakers Jiri Prskavec and Vavrinec Hradilek were first and second in men’s K1, while Spanish representative Nuria Vilarrubla took gold in women’s C1 final. Ander Elosegi (ESP) and Maarten Hermans (NED) booked a ticket to the Rio 2016 Olympic Games after finishing at the top in the European Olympic Qualifiers.
