Slovenian team dominates ECA Wildwater Canoeing European Cup in Banja Luka

Slovenian men's K1 wildwater canoeing team was unbeatable during the ECA Wildwater Canoeing European Cup in Banja Luka. In the sprint event they proved to be one of the strongest nations in this canoeing discipline taking the first 7(!) places. They were even more motivated as this race was also the first selection race for the Slovenian national team. Croats were the best in men’s canoe – Igor Gojić was the fastest in sprint race and Emil Milihram in classic event. Athletes from six nations took part in the race organised in Bosnia and Herzegovina at the venue which is set to host this year’s Wildwater canoeing World Championships.

Nejc Žnidarčič is a superhero

Reigning European Wildwater Sprint Canoeing Champion Nejc Žnidarčič turned into a superhero for a day. He made a promotional video for a new boat which he helped design after he realized his boat could be even faster. “I got in touch with the manufacturer, presented him my ideas and he agreed we start to design a new model,” explained Žnidarčič who has more than 20 medals from European and World Championships. The boat itself will not be completely new since they have derived from the old one. But the new one is improved and has some elements which will help him in the chase for new medals, “Sprint races are now organised on more difficult and shorter courses, therefore we added extra volume in the bow, so you can easily slide through the waves, and we took off some volume in the stern, so the bigger waves would not stop it.”
The presentation of the new model was a spectacular one with special video featuring Nejc Žnidarčič in the role of a superhero. “Nowadays marketing is crucial even though you have a good product, so the manufacturer cooperated with one of the biggest marketing companies in Italy and they made this video. We shot the scenes on a lake near Treviso. The team was very professional, it consisted of 12 people who took care of every detail and the result is this excellent product,” Žnidarčič concluded.
