Catoira (13/10/2016) - The sixth edition of the Congress of Coaches in Sprint Canoeing in Spain starts tomorrow with the first presentations of many international and national guests who came to Catoira. This year’s attention will not be only devoted to canoe sprint, but also to paracanoeing.Biannual event attracts many experts and coaches in this canoeing discipline and this year is no exception. So far 250 coaches from 22 countries - Canada, China, South Korea, Germany, Great Britain, Belgium, Singapore, Chile, Sweden, France, India, Italy, Finland, Norway, Denmark, Slovenia, Poland, Romania, Columbia, Portugal, South Africa and Spain - applied to be a part of the congress.

Cesky Krumlov (10/10/2016) – The season of International River Marathons continued in Czech Republic with the 14th edition of the Cesky Krumlov River Marathon. Similar to a week before and the Adige Marathon in Italy the K2 crews were the fastest, taking the top positions at the 36 kilometres long marathon from Vyssy Brod to Cesky Krumlov. It took two hours, six minutes and 45 seconds for Pascal Lucker (NED) and Andreas Heilinger (GER) to complete their run in K2 boat. The international duo was a bit more than two minutes faster than Czech K2 Tomaš Ježek – Jakub Zavrel and another Czech crew Karel Slepica – Tomaš Slovak finished third.

Oetz (08/10/2016) - Austrian Ötztal valley and its well known Wellerbrücke rapids hosted the ninth edition of Extreme Kayak World Championships which attracted almost 200 athletes from 29 countries. European whitewater paddlers did extremely well. Sandra Hyslop (GBR) is the new Extreme Kayak World Champion in women’s event, Nouria Newman (FRA) picked up silver medal and Martina Wegman (NED) bronze medal. 25-year old Aniol Serrasolses (ESP) took the win in men’s event, finishing the final run ahead of Sam Sutton (NZL) and Dane Jackson (USA).

05/10/2016 - Etienne Stott MBE, the 2012 Olympic Gold medallist in canoe slalom, has announced his retirement from the competitive canoeing today. 37- year old Briton who won eight medals in top level international competitions, such as Olympic Games and World and European Championships, spent most of his career paddling in C2 together with Tim Baille and in the past two years Stott teamed up with Mark Proctor.

Catoira (04/10/2106) - The VI Congress of Coaches in Sprint Canoeing in Spain will take place next week in Catoira (14-16 October 2016). An important part of this year’s congress will be gender perspective and many of the congress’ topics will deal with this issue. One of the things presented and debated during the congress will be the results of the study focusing on the reasons why women quit canoeing at a younger age and at a higher percentage than men. The study was funded by the Spanish Ministry of Sports.

Pescantina (02/10/2016) - Italian K2 crew Federico Urbani – Davide Marin is the winner of the 13th edition of the Adige marathon held on this 410 kilometres long Italian river, the second longest in the country. The marathon which attracted professional paddlers, amateurs, rafters etc. started in Borghetto di Avio and concluded 35 kilometres later in Pescantina. Urbani and Marin are the first Italians to win at this marathon after the year 2011 when Maximilian Benassi and Luigi Spadoni won in the K2 boat. In 2012 Germans Robert Ernst and Jan Burgdorf set the fastest time of the marathon, in 2013 and 2014 Czech K2s Richard Hala – Jonatan Šramek and Tomaš Slovak – Karel Slepica crossed the finish line with the fastest time, while last year French duo Quentin Bonnetain and Remi Pete celebrated the win. Spanish paddler Guillermo Fidalgo de Leon in men’s K1 finished second this year, only 10 seconds behind the winners, while Belgian representative Dries Corrijn finished third.
