30/12/2016 - It is with great sorrow that we inform you of the passing of Anton Prijon, world champion and world famous boat manufacturer.
Toni Prijon was born in 1929 in Gorizia and spent his childhood by the Soča River. Already as a teenager he developed and constructed a boat in his father’s joiner’s workshop. He won his first Whitewater canoeing race in this boat. He was among the first ones who paddled the Soča River from Bovec to Solkan (Slovenia). He left Yugoslavia in the 1950’s and moved to Germany where he married and started a family. In 1958 he became German Whitewater Champion and a year later (in 1959) also a World Champion (he was competing for Germany). He was the best in men’s kayak event at the Whitewater Canoeing World Championships in Treignac.
In 1962 he founded Prijon Kayak Company with his wife Lotte in Rosenheim (GER).

24/12/2016 - The 2016 Olympic year is coming to an end and all eyes will now slowly turn to the next Olympic cycle and the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. Because of financial problems and budget cuts the news broke out some proposed venues could change from initial plans and among those was also canoe sprint venue. The organisers considered moving canoe sprint as well as rowing events 400 kilometres away to the Naganuma rowing course in Tome in Miyagi Prefecture.
After meetings they have agreed the first proposal was better so canoe sprint and rowing will remain at the Sea Forest course on Tokyo Bay during the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The second option will now most likely serve as the training facility for canoe sprinters and rowers prior to the Olympic Games. Authorities suggest the cost of this venue could reach as much as 411 million Euros, so Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike urged the International Canoe Federation and International Rowing Federation to carry some of the burden, reports Inside the Games.
