Spain prepares the biggest surprise of the last competition day in Bourg Saint Maurice

The last competition day in Bourg Saint Maurice brought many joy to the Spanish team. Spain won four medals although they were not considered to be among the main favourites for the medals. Another surprise was Russian team with three medals. France won six medals in team competition, Czech Republic and Poland four, Germany won three medals, Great Britain two and Italy one.

Bourg Saint Maurice - Another day of great racing in France

Slalom paddlers made sure that the fans will not forget the fights of the European Junior and U23 Canoe Slalom Championships in France. In Saturday's semi-finals and finals in junior category we witnessed some surprises as well as hard competition. Matuš Gewissler – Juraj Skakala (SVK), Lisa Leitner (AUT), Jakub Grigar (SVK) and Cedric Joly (FRA) are the new European Champions.

Bourg Saint Maurice - Martin Halčin defends his European Champion title

Slovakian kayaker Martin Halčin was the only competitor in U23 category who managed to defend his European Champion title from last year's competition in Slovenia. He was the best in men's kayak final of the European Junior and U23 Canoe Slalom Championships held in Bourg Saint Maurice. Croatian Matija Marinić took gold in men's C1, German Ricarda Funk in women's K1 and Czechs Jonas Kašpar and Marek Šindler were the best in C2 final.

First day of European Championships in Bourg-Saint-Maurice without upsets

The European Junior and U23 Canoe Slalom Championships in France is on its way and so far we have not witnessed any big surprises. Top canoeing nations passed the heats without many problems and their athletes safely advanced to the next level of the competition. The British and Czech team were the strongest in Wednesday’s U23 heats.

Bourg Saint Maurice - First two European Champion titles for Great Britain

British paddlers Mallory Franklin and Kimberley Woods are the first two competitors at European Canoe Slalom Junior and U23 championships in France who celebrated the European Champion titles. The second day of competition in French Alps brought semi-finals and finals in women’s canoe categories as well as heats of all the remaining junior categories.
