Dr. Andrea Pace is an associate at the Italian Sports Medicine and Science Institute (ISTITUTO DI MEDICINA E SCIENZA DELLO SPORT – CONI – ITALIA). He graduated in physics in 1986 and wrote his graduate thesis on hydrodynamics. He is a level 3 canoe coach at FICK (Italian Federation of Kayak and Canoe) and an Italian FICK champion in the kids, junior and masters categories.

Some European National Canoe Federations facing management changes

14/12/2016 - The end of the Olympic cycle usually brings some changes in the programmes, structure of the federations and new plans for the upcoming four years leading towards the next Olympic Games. This year was no different. Many European national federations encountered minor or major changes, while in some federations such as Russian, Spanish, Portuguese and Italian the presidents have been re-elected for the next four year term.

Juraj Minčik is leaving Slovakian canoe slalom team

13/12/2016 - Juraj Minčik, former canoe slalom athlete and one of the best canoeists of all times who dedicated past years to coaching of younger generations of Slovak paddlers, reached a decision to leave canoeing. He is switching jobs on his coaching peak – his protégées Matej Benuš and Škantar cousins won silver and gold medals at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games and have been among the best competitors in the recent years.

“It is time for a change. It was enough of travel; I want to spend more time with my family, so I decided to change jobs,” said Minčik.

British Canoeing recognises volunteers

11/12/2016 - British Canoeing Volunteer and Athlete Recognition Awards took place in Eastwood Hall in Nottinghamshire. British Canoeing awarded volunteers as well as athletes in different categories. Young volunteer of the year is Orlando Sarabia-Hill, Hayley Clarke of the Hinckley Canoe Club has won the Community Volunteer award, Allan Fitch has been named an Impact on Disability Volunteer of the Year, Mike Moffitt and Donna Vincent are the 2016 Volunteer Coaches of the year, Halifax Canoe Club has been named the best canoe club of the year and Alan Ashby is event volunteer of the year. George Bullard and Olly Hicks who made the first known journey from Greenland to Scotland received MacGregor Challenge Award. Outstanding contribution awards winners are Alan Laws, Paul Newman, Mick Nadal, Kevin Dennis and John Hoile. Athlete recognition awards went to the hands of two freestyle paddlers who won European Freestyle Champion titles this year – Claire O’Hara and Alex Edwards, and Whitewater paddler Hannah Brown who took a gold medal at the 2016 Whitewater Sprint Canoeing World Championships in Banja Luka (BIH).

Peter Kauzer and Špela Ponomarenko Janić Slovenian paddlers of the year

11/12/2016 - Canoe Federation of Slovenia awarded the best athletes of the season 2016 at a traditional event Paddler of the year gala in Ljubljana. The best male paddler of the year in Slovenia is Peter Kauzer, Rio 2016 canoe slalom silver medallist, and Špela Ponomarenko Janić received an award for the best female paddler of the year 2016. The best Slovenian female paddler of all times finished fourth at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro (K1W 200m) and was also third in the overall standings of the World Cup series.
