Prskavec, Škantar cousins and Florence winners of Australian Open

European canoe slalom paddlers dominated the 2017 Australian Open on the Olympic Course in Penrith. They have won ten medals in five events and finished the competition with 27 finals altogether. David Florence was the best in men’s C1 final, Jiri Prskavec in men’s K1 final and Škantar cousins in men’s C2 event.

The canoeing season 2017 will miss some of the biggest stars of the last years because many of the medallists from Olympic Games, European and World Championships decided to end their careers after the Olympic season 2016. The next paddler to announce retirement from competitive sport is British canoe sprinter Ed McKeever MBE, Olympic Champion from London, 2010 European Champion and 2010 World Champion.

Serghei Tarnovschi (MDA) suspended for four years

Canoe Sprint athlete Serghei Tarnovschi who represented Moldova at the 2016 Olympic Games and also won a bronze medal in men's C1 1000 metres event has been suspended for four years after his sample was positive for banned substances.
