2017 ECA Junior Canoe Slalom Cup series kicks off next weekend

Only one week is left until the start of this year’s ECA Junior Canoe Slalom Cup race series which always attracts many young and promising canoe slalom paddlers from Europe as well as from other continents as this is an open competition intended for all young athletes wishing to gain experience from strong competition and to make new friends in the canoe slalom community. The first two races of the year 2017 will be organised in Solkan, Slovenia.

Picturesque Soča River and Solkan, a town located next to the Italian border, are a well known site for canoe slalom competitions, especially in junior and U23 categories as it hosted several Canoe Slalom European as well as World Championships in the previously mentioned age categories. It is also a traditional venue of the ECA Junior Canoe Slalom Cup events. This year Slovenia will host the first two races of the series. One will be held on Saturday, 17th June, and another on Sunday, 18th June 2017. Organisers expect 350 athletes from 16 countries.

These two races were actually supposed to be races 5 and 6, but the bad conditions and lack of water in France forced organisers to cancel the events in Lannion, Lochrist and Roches du Diable that were scheduled to be held already in February.

After Solkan young canoe slalom paddlers will travel to Flattach, Austria (27-28/06/2017) and Augsburg, Germany (01-02/07/2017). After a break the series will resume on 29th and 30th July in Krakow, Poland. Then young athletes will travel to České Budějovice, Czech Republic (05-06/08/2017) and finish the series with finals events in Bratislava, Slovakia, on 12th and 13th August 2017.
