2019 ECA Junior & U23 Canoe Sprint European Championships comes in five months

2019 ECA Junior & U23 Canoe Sprint European Championships comes in five months 13.2.2019

We are five months away from the 2019 ECA Junior and U23 Canoe Sprint European Championships. This year’s competition for Juniors and paddlers in the U23 category will take place in Račice Arena, at the same venue which hosted the very successful Canoe Sprint and Paracanoeing World Championships in 2017. The 2019 ECA Junior & U23 Canoe Sprint European Championships will start on 10th July with an opening ceremony.

So far over 400 athletes from 14 countries have been registered for the Championships, the final number of participants is expected to be twice as much. Among the main favourites for the medals at this championships will be young Czech competitors who were excellent at last year’s ECA Junior and U23 European Championships in Auronzo and set a medal record with eight medals in junior category and additional one in the U23 category.

“After a one year pause, it is an honour to re-organise a great international canoeing event in Račice. Preparations are running at full speed. For young competitors the championships at home is a unique challenge and great opportunity to compete against European competitors with the support of their family and friends on the stands. We have many promising competitors and successors of the current successful generation, so we hope a lot of fans will come to support them,” said Jan Boháč, chairman of the Czech Canoe Union.

The 2019 ECA Junior and U23 Canoe Sprint European Championships will kick off on Wednesday, 10th July, with an opening ceremony. The following day heats in 1000 and 500 metres events will open the competition part of the championships. On Friday semifinals in these distances will follow, as well as heats of the 200 meters events. The first sets of medals will be awarded on Saturday to the best in the 1000 meters finals, in the afternoon part of the programme semifinals of the 200 meters events are scheduled. The championships will conclude on Sunday with 500 and 200 meters finals.
