3 weeks to go – 2017 ECA Canoe Marathon European Championships

The biggest European Canoe Marathon event of the year which might just also be one of the biggest and best organised canoe marathon events ever is less than three weeks away. The oldest Portuguese village Ponte de Lima is ready to welcome Europe’s best canoe marathon paddlers as well as masters who will compete before the official start of the 2017 ECA Canoe Marathon European Championships.

So far the organisers have received over 230 entries of athletes from 16 countries who would like to participate at the Masters European Cup. Besides representatives of host nation and neighbouring Spain, also paddlers from France, Germany, Italy, Belgium, Luxembourg, Hungary, Norway, Great Britain, Ireland, Netherlands, Poland, Russia, and Ukraine are expected to start. Masters will compete on Tuesday and Wednesday, 27th and 28th June 2017.

The opening ceremony of the upcoming 2017 ECA Canoe Marathon European Championships will be held on Wednesday, 28th June 2017. The first competitions of the Championships will start on Thursday with K1W, C1W, C1M, K1M Junior events and K1W U23 event. Later in the day the short events, on a 3,6 kilometres long course, will be introduced, but these races will not be an official part of the European Championships, so no European Champion titles will be awarded to the fastest paddlers.

On Friday K2W, K2M and C2M junior events will be held as well as K1M and C1M U23 races. On Saturday seniors in K1M, K1W, C1M and C1W events will fight for the medals, while on Sunday the championships will close with K2W, C2M and K2M senior events.

There is still time for entries, so do not miss an opportunity to be a part of a great sporting event in Portugal. SPD ICF entry system for the 2017 ECA Canoe Marathon European Championships is open until 14th June 2017 and for the Masters European Cup you can send your applications until 15th June 2017.
