75th edition of Tatra Slalom this weekend in Slovakia 20.4.2023

The traditional Tatra Canoe Slalom race will celebrate its 75th edition this weekend and the race will also count for the 2023 ECA Open Canoe Slalom European Cup series. The course in Liptovský Mikuláš, Slovakia, will see around 120 athletes from seven countries.


Slovakia is one of the super powers in Canoe Slalom and at the course in Liptovský Mikuláš many top level paddlers made their first strokes, including legendary canoeist Michal Martikan. Legendary is also the race Tatra Slalom that will celebrate its 75th edition the upcoming weekend.
 
“This competition started in 1949 and is actually the oldest one organised without interruptions in the world and of course in Europe. This is the flagship of Slovak Canoeing.  High standard of our competition in the past is binding us for the future. The conditions for canoe slalom will significantly improve in Liptovský Mikuláš this year. We are looking to the day when the new pumping system will be operational and used by all fans of canoe slalom. Canoe Tatra Club welcomes all athletes coming this year to compete at our race. We wish them all the best for this weekend,” said Alexander Slafkovský senior, president of the Canoe Tatra Club.
 
On Friday, athletes will compete in kayak cross time trials, and on Saturday the heats in all four events will be held, starting at 10.00. On Sunday, semi-final is scheduled for 10.00, with canoe slalom final at 13.00 and kayak cross at 15.30.
