83th edition of International descent of the Sella attracted more than 1000 participants 7.8.2019

The Descent of the Sella in Spain, which is the oldest canoeing competition on the international calendar, once again attracted many spectators and over 1000 participants from around the world. This was the 83th edition and participants from 16 countries took part in this sporting event. It is believed that around 200,000 spectators followed the competition from the river banks.


It was Spanish duo, members of Club Fluvial de Lugo Miguel Fernandez Castanon and Jose Julian Beccero, who took the win ahead of French representatives Quentin Urban and Jeremy Candy, while Juan Busto Gutierez and Roberto Geringer Sallate finished third. These three boats took the win in general standings as well as in men’s senior K2 event.
 
Eva Barrios and Amaia Osaba were winners of women’s K2 standings, Tania Alvarez and Tania Fernandez were second and Fay Lamph – Jane Swarbeck from Great Britain third. In women’s K1 Miriam Vega won the first place, Irene Gana finished second and Ana Gonzalez third.
 
Mads Pedersen from Denmark was the winner of men’s senior K1 event, finishing the race less than a minute ahead of Alberto Plaza Sagredo and Guillermo Fidalgo de Leon. In men’s C1 Diego Suarez Diaz won the race ahead of Eliot Coutou and Jose Manuel Sanchez. Manuel Campos and Diego Romero were winners in men’s C2 event, followed by Ruben Paz and Nicolas Barreiro and Sergio Arana – Ivan Bengoechea.
