Aigner, Funk and Tasiadis among the most successful athletes in Augsburg 20.3.2019

Wildwater course in Augsburg is considered to be one of the traditional venues of major international canoe slalom and wildwater canoeing competitions and paddlers coming from Augsburg are among the most successful sportsmen in the city. Hannes Aigner was named best sportsman of the year 2018 in Augsburg at a ceremony held in City Hall.


The 2018 K1M canoe slalom World Champion Hannes Aigner received the most points in the sportsman of the year category of the sporting awards in Ausgburg. 30-year-old paddler received twice as much points as second placed Hockey player Drew Le Blanc, while another canoe slalom paddler Sideris Tasiadis finished as third best sportsman of the year in Augsburg.
 
In sportswoman of the year category reigning European Champion and World championships bronze medallist Ricarda Funk won the second position. She was only behind boxer Tina Rupprecht.
 
Besides previously mentioned three German canoe slalom representatives who were awarded in main categories, also other paddlers who excelled at international and national level were awarded for their performances, among them were wildwater paddlers Normen Weber and Sabine Füßer as well as other canoe slalom paddlers, such as Jasmin Schornberg, Selina Jones, Lukas Stahl, Elena Apel, Samuel Hegge, Leo Bolg and others.
