Andrea Herzog the best junior athlete in Saxony 5.3.2018

It is no secret that Germany is one of the strongest canoeing nations in the world. But their athletes are among the most decorated ones also in Germany among many athletes and different sports this European country excels at. Canoe Sprint and Canoe Slalom stars are frequently in the best athlete’s lists in their cities and regions and now German canoe team can also celebrate the best young and future stars of canoeing. C1 women Junior World Champion Andrea Herzog received an award for the Saxony’s best junior athlete in 2017. 


Andrea Herzog, young German canoe slalom C1W paddler, has been a part of canoeing family for some time now and she already has experiences from top level competitions, such as World Cup races and Senior European Championships. In 2017 she produced the best final run in Bratislava to celebrate the Junior World Champion title. Athlete who is competing for canoe club from Leipzig was named best Junior of the year 2017 according to votes made by State Sports Federation of Saxony and the Saxon Sports Journalists Association in a Gala Ceremony held in Dresden. She was also eighth in the overall standings for the best Sportswoman of the year.
 
 
Herzog, however, is not the only German paddler with this award. Former winners of this title are canoe sprinters Tina Dietze and Tom Liebscher. Both were among the best also this year, only in senior category. They finished the poll in the second place in their respective categories. Tina Dietze, K2 500m 2017 European Champion and vice World champion, finished the year only behind artistic gymnast Pauline Schäfer, while Tom Liebscher finished behind Nordic combined athlete Eric Frenzel. Among the top 10 were also Steffi Kriegerstein (6th) and Melanie Gebhardt (7th) in women’s category and Peter Kretschmer, who was 7th among Sportsmen.
