Angela Hannah retired from competitive sport

Angela Hannah retired from competitive sport 26.2.2020

British canoe sprinter Angela Hannah announced her retirement from competitive sport. In her canoeing career she participated at two Olympic Games – in London and Rio de Janeiro.

Angela Hannah took up the sport 12 years ago when she moved to the UK from Zimbabwe as a competitive hockey player. She initially started as a rower but was talent spotted by British Canoeing and quickly fell in love with the sport. “I immediately loved the sport and loved being on the water - even if it took a few months to have my first dry session. When I look back, there were so many highlights, racing and training in amazing places, with a great team with a great team ethos. I was always the strong paddler, the powerhouse at the back and I learned so much from the other girls I paddled with, especially Lani (Belcher) and Hannah (Brown) in the K2 who really helped me with the technical aspects of paddling,” said Angela.

In her career she was a part of K2 200 metres crew which won bronze medals at 2014 European Championships in Brandenburg and bronze medal at 2017 World Championships in Račice. A stalwart in the British crew boats, most recently Angela was part of the women’s K4 500m crew who finished 13th at the 2019 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships, just 12 months after having her son.
