Artūras Seja had an excellent season which also brought him the title of the Lithuanian paddler of the year. 22-year-old sprinter first picked up silver medal in men’s K1 200 metres event at European Championships in Belgrade, continued with silver medal at U23 European Championships in Auronzo di Cadore in the same event. In Plovdiv he won the U23 World Champion title in the 200 metres final, and he added another silver medal to his collection at senior World Championships in Montemor-o-Velho, also in the 200 metres race.

 

“I did not expect this year to be so successful. In Lithuania, there is a huge competition between sprinters and this encourages efforts in every training. If you win in Lithuania, you are already a real bidder to win a medal at European or World championships. I am pleased that my name will be listed among the best Lithuanian paddlers who participated in all the summer Olympic Games after the Lithuania's independence and won the medals at the last two Olympic Games,” he said. His competition for the title of athlete of the year was tough, as he beat Henrikas Žustautas, Vadim Korobov, Ričardas Nekriošius and Andrej Olijnik.

 

Artūras Seja was also among the nominees for the Lithuanian athlete of the year, but he lost to Andrius Gudžius, Lithuanian discus thrower, but Seja did get an award that evening for the Breakthrough of the year.
