Monica Doria elected as the first Chair of the European Canoe Association Athletes’ Committee
October 15, 2025 : Following the adoption of its new statutes at the Extraordinary Congress
in November 2024, the European Canoe Association (ECA) has officially established its
Athletes’ Committee, marking a major step forward in strengthening athlete representation
within the Association’s governance.
The Committee is composed of male and female representatives from Olympic and
Paralympic disciplines, as well as two representatives; one man and one woman from
non-Olympic disciplines, reflecting the diversity and unity of European canoeing in all its
forms.
This week, the ECA experienced a historic moment with the election, by her peers, of the
Committee’s first Chair: Monica Doria, an Andorran canoe slalom athlete, European
Champion at the recent European Championships in Vaires-sur-Marne (France) and a
finalist at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
As Chair of the Athletes’ Committee, Monica Doria will be responsible for representing the
voice of athletes within the ECA’s decision-making bodies. She will sit on the ECA Board
with voting rights, ensuring that athletes’ perspectives are directly included in the
Association’s governance.
Beyond her institutional role, the Athletes’ Committee will work to promote the values of the
Olympic and Paralympic movements, strengthen connections with the National
Federations’ Athletes’ Committees and the International Canoe Federation Athletes’
Committee, and support the ECA President during major competitions and events.
“It is a great honour to be elected by my fellow athletes to represent them. Together, we will
work to make athletes’ voices heard, share our experiences, and contribute to the future of
European canoeing,” said Monica Doria following her election.
The creation of the Athletes’ Committee highlights the ECA’s commitment to placing
athletes at the heart of its governance and ensuring balanced, fair, and active
representation across all disciplines.
