Beata Rosolska – Postponement of Olympic Games does not change my plans and dreams

Beata Rosolska – Postponement of Olympic Games does not change my plans and dreams 16.6.2020

The news of Olympic Games postponement caught Polish national team members in Portugal while they were preparing for the new season. Three times Olympic medallist Beata Rosolska (née Mikolajczyk) gave an interview for the Polish TV Sport.

“It was sad news for me,” commented on the decision one of the best Polish paddlers of all times Beata Rosolska and continued, “I thought if the Games were postponed, it would be a month, maybe two. I didn't think that such a big event could be postponed for a year. Our whole group hoped that this would not happen. Well, we can’t do nothing but reconcile with this decision, keep training, because we still do not know what this year will bring.”

Rosolska is coming back after having a baby, so would this extra year of training before the Olympic Games be a plus? “On the one hand, I could see it as an extra time to get back in shape, to prepare myself, but on the other, due to my age it can mean that my body will not manage, because I do not know what it will say next year. Now, I must say the body surprised me in a positive way, because despite my age, it is good at training. I do not hide, however, that it is not easy, because the group is very strong. When I left, the group was strong, but now it is very strong. I see that what trainer Tomasz Kryk is planning works. This can be seen even with the naked eye. We have one of the few such trainers in Poland who can plan it and implement plans in such a way that it brings great results.”

Beata travelled to the training camp with her child and was able to count on the support of her mother, “It is an additional motivation for me, because it is very nice to come back to the room after training, when the son is waiting for me at the door with a smile. This is something great for every mother and child. Separation from him would be terrible; fortunately I do not have such a situation. Logistics with a child is manageable; provided that we really want it and that the trainer is helpful. Ours gives the green light to such a solution; Karolina Naja is here with her son. I appreciate that Tomek understands this, he is a father himself, he knows how important this is in life.”

The season 2020 is still uncertain as no major international event has been finally confirmed in the coming months, “I train to race. I am such a creature, but of course I understand that our health is the most important thing. If the organisation of the competition is a threat to our health and safety, I will have to accept it.”

The goals for the sport future, however, are clear, including the dream of another Olympic medal, “Yes of course. I would love to, I dream about it. I train all the time, the goal has not changed. It's not like they postponed the games in Tokyo, and I can sit in a chair for a year. Now I just wish there was no uncertainty. Tomasz Kryk, a trainer, helped a lot in obtaining the financial support, as well as obtaining a sponsor. It gave me great peace to go back to sport after having a child. Return to training, because my name is Mikolajczyk, although now Rosolska, and the fact that I already have three Olympic medals, does not mean that I had a sure start in the next games. Like every member in our group, I have to fight for this place and work hard for it.”
