Belgrade ready to host the XIV Ordinary Congress of the European Canoe Association

Belgrade ready to host the XIV Ordinary Congress of the European Canoe Association 28.3.2019

Everything is ready for the XIV Ordinary Congress of the European Canoe Association which is scheduled for this Saturday in Serbian capital Belgrade. Delegates are expected to arrive to “White City” on Friday.

Delegates from 35 European countries have confirmed their participation at the XIV Ordinary Congress of the European Canoe Association. They will discuss the future challenges and tasks of European Canoeing as well as vote for president of the European Canoe Association, representatives in the ECA Board of Directors, continental representatives in the ICF Board of directors and new auditor.

During the congress the 2019 European Games in Minsk will be presented as well to the delegates who will arrive to Serbia. Canoe Sprint is in the competition programme of the European Games which are coming this June and will also count as European Championships as there will be no ECA Canoe Sprint European Championships held in the year of the European Games.

For the first time in the 25 year history of ECA there is only one candidate for the position of the president of the European Canoe Association. Albert Woods OBE is a candidate of British Canoeing and has led European Canoe Association since its beginning in 1993. He has rich experience in canoeing as a former athlete, team manager, official and in leading positions of sport organisations, including British Olympic Association where he is honorary life vice-president.

There are two candidates for the position of vice president of the European Canoe Association. Candidate of the Czech Canoe Union Jaroslav Pollert is running for the re-election to this position. The second candidate is Geir Kvillum, president of the Norwegian Canoe Association.

There are five candidates for the three available positions in the ECA Board of Directors. Marta Felpeto Lamas from Spain, Manuela Gawehn from Germany and Andrej Jelenc from Slovenia are running for re-election, while Elena Iskhakova from Russia and Jovana Stanojević from Serbia are running for their first term in the ECA Board of Directors.
After new and old Board of Directors members are elected delegates at the congress will vote for the two continental representatives in the ICF Board of Directors. These representatives will have to be selected from the ECA Board of Directors members, with a minimum of one from the minority gender. The candidates for this position are Manuela Gawehn, Elena Iskhakova, Andrej Jelenc and Jovana Stanojević.

The only candidate for the auditor position is Evelina Petrova from the Bulgarian Canoe Federation.
