Benjamin Savšek coming back after an injury

Benjamin Savšek coming back after an injury 21.3.2019

One of the best canoe slalom paddlers in men’s C1 Benjamin Savšek had a rough beginning of the year 2019 after he suffered an injury that prevented him to see through his planned winter training.

Slovenian canoe slalom paddler Benjamin Savšek, the 2015 European Champion and 2017 World Champion in men’s C1, was looking forward to the pre-Olympic season and was stepping into it with high goals. But a knee injury he suffered in January forced him to change his plans. Instead of going to a winter training camp in Al Ain (UAE), he underwent a knee arthroscopy performed by one of the top Slovenian specialists.

“A part of the meniscus was torn and then pulled into the joint. If I had not been a canoeist it would not be so critical, but I have to kneel in the boat. Obviously it was an old injury, but I did not know that it was so serious. The situation is improving,” said Savšek, who did a lot of exercise after the surgery to get back to the boat as soon as possible. In mid March he already traveled to this year’s European Championships venue in Pau, where he slowly started paddling on the rapids.

“I do not know how the lack of training on wild water will affect the beginning of my season. I realize that the season is approaching quickly, so I am trying hard to get back to the boat as soon as possible and take it with as few consequences as possible,” Savšek added.
