Bratislava waits for the new Junior and U23 Canoe Slalom European Champions

Organisers are dealing with the last details before the 2018 ECA Junior and U23 Canoe Slalom European Championships in Bratislava, Slovakia, kicks off this Wednesday with an opening ceremony. The competition part of the European Championships will be held between Thursday and Sunday. The first medallists will be known on Friday when team events are scheduled, while on Saturday and Sunday we will follow individual semi-finals and finals.

Over three hundred athletes from 28 European nations are expected to compete this week at the 2018 ECA Junior and U23 Canoe Slalom European Championships in Bratislava. Among them will be the best young canoe slalom stars, winners of the medals at recently organised Junior and U23 Canoe Slalom European Championships in Italy as well as defending champions from last year’s ECA Junior and U23 Canoe Slalom European Championships which was held in Hohenlimburg, Germany. Slovak representatives Sona Stanovska, Marko Mirgorodsky, Jakub Grigar, Andrej Malek all wish to win the medals in front of a home crowd, but there are other slalomists from Europe who are coming to Slovakia with similar goals. Miquel Trave from Spain, Camille Prigent, Cedric Joly, Anatole Delassus from France, Elena Apel from Germany, Jakob Weger from Italy, Klaudia Zwolinska from Poland, Naemi Braendle from Switzerland, Eva Alina Hočevar from Slovenia are just a few young paddlers who will be in the spotlight this week thanks to their medals at this year’s Junior and U23 World Championships and/or success from senior level events or championships that were held in the past seasons.

The first athletes who will test the course of the 2018 ECA Junior and U23 Canoe Slalom European Championships in Bratislava will be juniors in men’s K1 and women’s C1 events, whose heats are scheduled for Thursday with beginning at 10:00. They will be followed by men’s K1 and women’s C1 U23 categories on the same day. The remaining individual heats in junior and U23 K1W and C1M events will be organised on Friday morning. On Friday afternoon the first European Champions will be already known as we will follow the team events in all categories (K1M junior, C1W junior, K1M U23, C1W U23, K1W junior, C1M junior, K1W U23, C1M U23). Saturday and Sunday are reserved for individual semi-finals and finals with athletes in men’s K1 and women’s C1 competing on Saturday and athletes in K1W and C1M events fighting for the medals on Sunday.
