Bren Orton sets British record in Mexico

Bren Orton sets British record in Mexico 24.1.2018

23-year-old British extreme kayaker Bren Orton wrote history by making the longest kayak drop in the British canoeing history. This happened in Mexico’s Big Banana Falls where Orton took on the challenge of the 128 feet drop (about 39 metres). This was the second highest kayak descent in history and the highest waterfall navigated by a British kayaker so far.

“Big Banana Falls is a little bit unique in the world of waterfalls because you have to abseil into it. I'm not very skilled with climbing or ropes - that was new territory for me and I found that absolutely terrifying. I was way more scared of rappelling down into it than running the actual waterfall, although the impact at the bottom was humongous,” said for the Sun Online young kayaker who worked as a gravedigger, as a labourer on a building site, in a gym, and the national Watersports Centre and earned money doing clinical trials before turning pro kayaker.

Bren Orton however already plans new adventures. He wishes to equal the biggest ever drop – the 198-foot Palouse Falls in Washington, United States of America. “First I want to equal the record and then see whether I want to push higher than that. Waterfalls don't always cooperate with the right levels and timing and weather, but I have a good window from March to April when I'll be ready,” added Orton.
