Bulgarian canoeing mourns the death of Olympic medallist

Only a couple of days before his 70th birthday former Bulgarian canoe sprinter Borislav Borisov passed away. He won bronze Olympic medal at the 1980 Moscow Olympic Games.


Borislav Borisov was born on 12th November 1954 and dedicated his active sporting career to canoeing. He competed from the late 1970s to the early 1980s. During his career he competed at two Olympic Games, in 1976 in Montreal and in 1980 in Moscow. Here he celebrated his biggest success by winning bronze medal in men’s K4 1000 metres event, where he paddled together with Bozhidar Milenkov, Lazar Khristov and Ivan Manev. Gold medal was won by the crew from East Germany, while silver went to Romania.
 
After the end of his canoeing career he devoted his life to other roles in Bulgarian sport, he dedicated himself to his other great passion – tennis, and in recent years he served at the manager of Tennis Club Levski, located in Sofia.
 
We would like to express sincere condolences to his family and friends. Borislav, rest in peace.
