The ECA Board of directors held a first meeting in the year 2024 in Belgrade, Serbia. It was a long and fruitful meeting, where many topics were discussed. There were several important decisions made on Saturday.

The ECA Board of Directors discussed the received bids to organise the 2025 ECA Ordinary congress and it was decided the congress will be organised in Budapest, Hungary. ECA will also organise an Extraordinary Congress this year, within the ICF congress in Antalya, Turkey. The ECA Extraordinary congress is supposed to take place on Saturday, 9th November 2024.

The venues of the two ECA European Championships in the year 2025 were also chosen. The 2025 ECA Senior Canoe Slalom European Championships was awarded to French Canoe Federation with the bid of Vaires-sur-Marne, the venue which will host canoeing competitions at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. In the same year, the 2025 ECA Junior and U23 Canoe Slalom European Championships will be held in Solkan, Slovenia.

During the meeting the board members discussed the ECA’s economic model and its transformation as well as the governance structure. Jovana Stanojević was appointed ECA sport and event manager. She will cooperate with and oversee the work and preparation of the organising committees of the ECA Championships and ECA technical committees.

Important topic were also the results of the survey regarding the ECA Governance which was conducted within the national federations and the feedback from ECA member federations to see in which direction the organisation should go in the future to renew the ECA statutes and governance.

Technical delegates and committees proposed some changes to the competition rules at the ECA European Championships. In principle, the ECA follows the ICF competition rules, however, there are some changes and differences between ICF and ECA rules, and ECA board of directors approved the proposed changes in canoe freestyle and canoe slalom. The official document listing the differences in these two disciplines will be soon published on the ECA website.

It was also decided the ECA will introduce canoe slalom courses for coaches and prepare a special certification for the participants of these courses who will successfully fulfil the requirements of the courses to obtain the ECA certification. More information regarding this courses and certification will be available soon.
