Cagliari is getting ready for the 2022 ECA Ocean Racing European Championships 11.9.2022

In just a couple of days the 2022 ECA Ocean Racing European Championships will kick off in Cagliari, Sardinia. Around 200 athletes from 15 countries will participate at the competition in the official European Championships events as well as in the non-official races of the Ohana Mana Cup.


The opening ceremony is scheduled for Wednesday, while window for the competitions stretches from Thursday until Saturday, and races will be on the programme when the conditions will be the most favourable. On Sunday the championships will conclude with closing ceremony.
 
Around 200 athletes from Italy, Spain, France, Germany, Great Britain, Portugal, Ireland, Czech Republic, Sweden, Switzerland, Romania and Slovakia will take part in the official European Championships events, and in the non-official races of the Ohana Mana Cup we will also see the representatives of Israel, Australia and New Zealand.
 
The official European Championships events are the SS1 senior, U23 and U18 races for men and women.
 
In addition, participants will also be able to compete in the non-official European Championships events within the traditional Ohana Mana Cup, which include the SS1 U16 and master events, OC1 for men and women, SS2 and OC2 mixed events and paracanoe.
 
In the entry list we can find many familiar names from ocean racing as well as canoe sprint and wildwater canoeing competitors. Among the favourites for the European Championships medals will be undoubtedly representatives of Spain, among them Walter Bouzan, Esteban Medina, Judit Verges Xifra, Amaia Osaba, Chloe Bunnet, German Gordan Harbrecht and French paddlers Hector Henot, Nicolas Lambert and David Szlachta.
 
The defending champions from the 2021 ECA Ocean Racing European Championships in senior category are Walter Bouzan and Judit Verges Xifra from Spain.
