Canoe Marathon World Championships medallists excelled in China 13.10.2024

China’s Super Cup in Hangzhou which included different canoeing disciplines, brought exciting canoe marathon races. Medallists of September’s World Championships were very successful in Asia too.

Denmark’s Mads Pedersen continued winning streak in China, following his great performances at Canoe Sprint World Championships in Samarkand and double canoe marathon World Champion title in Croatia in September. In short race he beat South Africa’s Andrew James Birkett and Hamish Lovemore. “This is just a fantastic event, having all these disciplines together. Some of the strongest guys in the short-distance are here, so to take the gold is pretty cool and I'm just really happy,” Pedersen said. In women's short race Sweden’s Melina Andersson too continued her winning streak, again beating Hungary’s Vanda Kiszli, while Eva Barrios of Spain won bronze medal. Liudmyla Babak (UKR) won in women’s C1 short race ahead of two Chinese paddlers Ying Wang and Yahui Cao. Spain’s Jaime Duro, Moldova’s Serghei Tarnovschi and Hungary’s Balazs Adolf were the fastest three canoeists in men’s C1 short race.

In the long distance Balazs Adolf (HUN) took the win ahead of two Spanish canoeists Jaime Duro and Manuel Antonio Campos who were second and third respectively. In women’s canoe long distance race Liudmyla Babak again won, finishing the race more than 18 seconds ahead of Yahui Cao, while another Chinese paddler Ying Wang took bronze medal. Melina Andersson and Vanda Kiszli repeated their positions from the short race on the second competition day, while bronze medal went to Serbia’s Krisztina Bedocs. In men’s K1 long race, Mads Pedersen (DEN) won, while South Africa’s Andrew James Birkett and Hamish Lovemore changed their positions from short race, Lovemore picking silver medal in long distance and Birkett finishing third.
