Canoe Polo tournament of the World Games starts tomorrow

Seven teams – women’s and men’s – will compete this weekend at the canoe polo tournament within the World Games that are being held now in Wroclav, Poland. The World Games are an international multi-sport event, meant for sports, or disciplines or events within a sport, which are not contested in the Olympic Games. The World Games are held every four years, since their debut in 1981, one year after the Summer Olympic Games. Canoe Polo was first part of the World Games in 2005 in Duisburg, Germany.

In the previous editions of the World Games six teams played in the tournament, but this year the number has increased slightly and we will see seven teams. The top five countries – men’s and women’s – from the 2016 World Championships have been invited to the tournament. Host nation and the highest ranked non-European team will also participate in the event in Wroclaw’s Orbita swimming pool.

Germany is the defending champion both in men's and women's tournament. This year they will compete against the teams from Italy, Poland, Spain, France, New Zealand and Taipei (men's tournament) and France, Netherlands, Italy, Poland, Canada and New Zealand (women's tournament).

Rounds 1 – 7 are scheduled for Friday and Saturday, while semi-finals and finals will be played on Sunday.
