Canoe Slalom Super Cup introduced short slalom 13.10.2024

After the long and exciting season China’s Hangzhou hosted a special Super Cup sporting event, combining different canoeing disciplines under one roof. Canoe Slalom introduced short slalom, in addition to traditional slalom and kayak cross races that were held over three competition days.


The canoe slalom paddlers took on the challenge of Super Cup in China with traditional slalom race. In a race based on the organiser’s invitation, world’s best paddlers competed for the glory. In women’s kayak final France’s Camille Prigent took a win ahead of Klaudia Zwolinska of Poland and compatriot Emma Vuitton. Paris Olympic Champion and 2024 European Champion Giovanni De Gennaro (ITA) was the best in men’s kayak final, where Titouan Castryck (FRA) finished second and Felix Oschmautz (AUT) third. Ryan Westley (GBR) was the fastest in men’s canoe final, where Olympic Champion Nicolas Gestin (FRA) won silver medal and Vaclav Chaloupka (CZE) picked up bronze. Women’s C1 final was won by Gabriela Satkova (CZE), Mallory Franklin (GBR) was second and Marta Bertoncelli (ITA) third.
 
The short slalom course consisted of 12 gates, four of which were upstream. Here, Slovenia’s Luka Bozic found the fastest lines in men’s canoe final. Nicolas Gestin won his second silver medal of the Super Cup, while Adam Burgess (GBR) picked up bronze medal. Czech kayaker Vit Prindis was the fastest in men’s kayak event, Titouan Castryck repeated his second place from Friday’s traditional slalom, while young Czech Jakub Krejci occupied third place. France’s Marjorie Delassus was the winner of women’s canoe short slalom, Monica Doria Vilarrubla of Andorra was second and Great Britain’s Kimberley Woods third. Camille Prigent showed she is in a great form, winning her second gold medal of the weekend in women’s kayak short slalom. Martina Wegman (NED) was second and Klaudia Zwolinska (POL) third.
 
On the last competition day in China, canoe slalom paddlers competed in kayak cross. Tereza Kneblova (CZE) won in women’s final ahead of Stefanie Horn (ITA) and Mallory Franklin (GBR), while Swiss kayaker Gelindo Chiarello took gold medal, with Czechia’s Vit Prindis and Jakub Krejci winning second and third respectively.
