Canoe Slalom World Cup series ended in Spain

Canoe Slalom World Cup series ended in Spain 10.9.2018

Olympic course in La Seu d'Urgell, Spain, was the last venue of this year's canoe slalom World Cup series. European paddlers were once more excellent, winning thirteen medals in Saturday’s and Sunday’s finals and only two medals went to the hands of Australian paddlers. The same venue will host the 2019 Canoe Slalom and Wildwater Sprint Canoeing World Championships.

It was the first win for Slovenian canoeist Luka Božič in men’s C1 final. Former C2 World Champion stood on the C1 podium before, but in Spain he reached a new mile stone by winning the final race. Franz Anton from Germany was second and Olympic Champion Denis Gargaud Chanut from France third.

In women’s K1 final Ricarda Funk from Germany produced the best time to win the race ahead of Spanish favourite and Olympic champion Maialen Chourraut and British paddler Mallory Franklin.

Franklin had a great competition weekend. Besides winning bronze medal in kayak she picked up another medal in women’s C1. She was second, behind Australian Jessica Fox. Austrian Nadine Weratschnig was third.

In men’s kayak final Italian Giovanni de Gennaro crossed the finish line with the best time. Australian Lucien Delfour and Jiri Prskavec from Czech Republic joined him on the winner’s podium.

In C2 mixed event Czech Republic picked up two medals – gold and bronze – thanks to Tereza Fišerova – Jakub Jane and Veronika Vojtova – Jan Mašek. French duo Yves Prigent –Margaux Henry was second.
