Canoeing community mourns the death of Jorn Cronberg

Canoeing community mourns the death of Jorn Cronberg 25.9.2019

It is with great sorrow that we inform you of passing of Jorn Cronberg, ECA's Canoe Marathon technical delegate, who died at the age of 71 after a long illness.

Jorn Cronberg was one of the founders of European Canoe Association in 1993 and the first vice president of ECA after it's foundation in Rome. For 26 years he was also the ECA's canoe marathon technical delegate.

Jorn Cronberg had been chairman of ICF's canoe marathon for 35 years and was instrumental as secretary general of Danish Canoe Federation to have canoe marathon recognised as official discipline within the ICF. He launched the campaign in 1975 and succeeded in 1984. Cronberg played a major role in bringing canoe marathon to the programme of the 2021 World Games.

The news has been met with big sadness during the Canoe Slalom and Wildwater Sprint Canoeing World Championships in Spain. As a sign of respect a moment of silence was observed and the flag has been lowered to half mast.

We would like to express our sincere condolences to his family and friends. Jorn, rest in peace.
