Canoeing community mourns the death of Otto Bonn 10.2.2020

The world of canoeing mourns the death of legendary Otto Bonn who passed away at the age of 93 on February 8th.


Born in Italy Otto Bonn moved with his family to Hungary at the age of 12 and continued his sporting career until the year 1947. In 1949 he took on the job of secretary general at the Hungarian Canoe Federation. He was elected as an executive member of the ICF in 1954, and from 1970 until 1988 he served as an ICF vice president. He took on the role as ICF secretary general in 1988 until his retirement in 2000. He was made an ICF Honorary Member in recognition of his long time association with canoeing.
 
 
He received an IOC Order of Merit from Juan Antonio Samaranch, president of the IOC at the time, in Budapest in 1995 and a similar award from the Hungarian National Olympic Committee.
 
 
We would like to express our sincere condolences to his family and friends. Rest in peace.
