The fastest duo of the 2024 International canoe marathon of the Gorges de l'Ardèche was French crew composed of two excellent kayakers and long time members of French national team Cyrille Carre and Remi Pete who succeeded their teammates Quentin Bonnetain and Etienne Hubert on the throne. Last year’s winners were 24th overall this time and 8th in the masters K2 event standings.
Carre and Pete concluded the 34 kilometres long course in 1:40.56. This was a more than a minute faster than their closest rivals Steven Henry and Guillaume Keller, while Augustin Reboul and Linus Bolzern finished third, a little less than three minutes behind. Carre and Pete were at the same time winners of the masters’s K2 event, where De Winter and Cremers finished second and Kittner – Gieres were third. The third placed crew in senior event, behind Henry – Keller and Reboul – Bolzern was Lambert and Cattelle.
Leo Montulet and Laurane Sinnesael (1:46.37) took the win in mixed K2 event, ahead of Lean Bogaerts and Jane Derycke, while Theys – Van Broekhoven finished third. Belgian canoe sprint national team members Hermien Peters and Lize Broekx (1:51.37) set the winning time of women’s K2 event, where French wildwater canoeing national team members Eve Vitali Guilbert and Laura Fontaine finished second and Roos Broekx – Sare Smids took bronze medal. Men’s C2 event was won by Roussin – Roussin ahead of Maigrot – Dubois and Lisajoux – Papaix.
Gaetan Guyonnet won in men’s senior K1 event after finishing 14th in the overall standings, Come Donnet was second and Samuel Newlands of New Zealand third. French representative Pauline Freslon crossed the finish line with the best time in women’s K1, where Hannah Mueller won second place and Anna Retkova stood on the third podium position. Nicolas Sauteur and Theo Viens were first and second respectively in men’s C1 event, while Matous Beier took third place.
Jules Van Nieuwenhove, Alban Francois Siffert and Louis Pages were the fastest three in men’s junior K1, the podium in women’s junior K1 consisted of Italian Cecilia Leonori, Marilu Brambilla and Anna Vikova, Paul Deleplancque, Emile Pichard and Ilyan Dinally were at the podium in men’s C1 junior event, Jobbe Peels – Seppe Loomans won in men’s K2, De Hasque and Fostier in mixed K2, Desmerger and Koubaiti in women’s K2, and Kvapil and Trnka in men’s C2 junior event.
In the master’s events, apart from the fastest MK2 crews with Carre and Petit leading the way, Pedro Gutierrez Alvarez from Spain set the fastest time in men’s K1, Dominic Drieschner was second and David Drieschner third. Erwin Smids and Eef Haaze were the best in mixed K2 event, Louvet and Tourault were the fastest in women’s K2 master’s event, Zimmer and Maigrot were the best in MC2 master’s race, Lukas Novosad set the best time in men’s C1 and Stephanie Kaczmarek in women’s K1 event, Gsell and Delattre were the fastest in women’s C2 and Sire – Rigoulot in mixed C2 masters event.
On Saturday, a special short race format was held, the so called Rush. Here, Gaetan Guyonnet won ahead of Cornel Bretscher and Vojtech Prochazka in men’s K1, Theo Viens, Nicolas Sauteur and Matous Beier were the fastest in men’s C1 event, Pauline Freslon, Hannah Mueller and Clemence Hulpiau were the best in women’s K1, and Carre - Pete, Bonnetain – Hubert, Reboul – Bolzern took the top three positions in K2 race.
