Corinna Kuhnle waved goodbye to competitive sport 2.1.2025

Austrian canoe slalom paddler Corinna Kuhnle has announced her retirement from competitive sport at the age of 37.

The Austrian kayaker Corinna Kuhnle shared the news on her social media, announcing the end of a distinguished career in which she claimed both World and European Champion titles and competed in three Olympic Games.

“In 1994 I won my first trophy in a canoeing race at my home town club. Thirty years later I raced my last race – my third Olympic Games in Paris 2024. Today is the perfect point in my life to leave this chapter behind and to create space and energy for new adventures and challenges. In over 20 years as a professional athlete I celebrated a lot of victories and learned even more lessons by experiencing defeats. I met wonderful people who became friends and supporters and some, that helped me to grow in other ways. I’m grateful for every single encounter and connection that was made. My biggest thank you goes out to my family and friends, my fans, sponsors and supporters. I wish you all the best for 2025 – Happy New Year,” wrote Kuhnle.

Among her most notable achievements are two individual gold medals at tjhe European Championships (2017 – Ljubljana-Tacen, 2021 – Ivrea) and two World Champion titles (2010 – Ljubljana-Tacen, 2011 – Bratislava). In addition, she won two individual silver medals at the European Championships (2010, 2018), and a silver medal at the European Championships in kayak cross in 2021. She won three team medals at the World Championships (two silver and a bronze) and six team medals at the European Championships (three silver, three bronze). Her early successes include silver medal at the 2004 Junior European Championships, and three bronze medals at the U23 European Championships.

In her rich career she competed in three Olympic Games, in 2012 in London she finished 8th, in Rio de Janeiro four years later she was 5th, and she concluded her Olympic journey at the Paris 2024 Games with 10th place.
