Czech Cup and Selection races kicked off in Veltrusy

Czech Cup and Selection races kicked off in Veltrusy 28.7.2020

The first two races of Czech Canoe Slalom Cup and national selection races were organised in Veltrusy. The competition weekend was packed with excitement as paddlers not only fight for the spots in the national team but also for the Olympic tickets.

In men’s kayak event Jiri Prskavec took the win on both competition days and made a big step towards securing the place in the Tokyo Olympic team. “I'm very happy. It couldn't have started better, but on the other hand we still have two races and I have to do at least one of them well. So nothing is decided, but I took a big step,” said Prskavec after successful weekend. On Saturday Ondrej Tunka and Vavrinec were second and third respectively, while on Sunday Vit Prindiš and Tomaš Zima joined Prskavec among the top three.

Equally successful was Tereza Fišerova in women’s canoe, who too recorded two wins over the weekend. On Saturday sisters Martina and Gabriela Satkova were second and third, while on Sunday Gabriela Satkova and Tereza Kneblova were the closest opponents of Fišerova.

Vojtech Heger, Lukaš Rohan and Vitezslav Gebas were the top three on both days in men’s canoe final. While Gebas finished third in both races, Rohan and Heger each recorded a win and one second place.

Katerina Kudejova is in the best position after first two selection races in women’s kayak event. On day one she finished second and a day later she won the race. On Saturday it was Veronika Vojtova who was the best and Antonie Galuškova was third, while on Sunday Barbora Valikova finished second and Antonie Galuškova third.

A couple of paddlers also competed in mixed and men’s double. On the first day Mrazek – Rousek, Hradilek – Vlček and Suchy – Suchy were the top three in MC2, with Drabek – Samkova and Kloboučkova – Urban finishing in places one and two in mixed C2. On Sunday Suchy – Suchy finished men’s C2 final ahead of Volak – Koči and Klimuškin – Kašpar. Drabek – Samkova was the only duo in the mixed C2 final.
