Czech paddlers successful in Prague

Czech paddlers successful in Prague 2.8.2022

While majority of the eyes were on the canoe slalom world championships in Augsburg, Prague hosted the ECA European Open Canoe Slalom Cup with strong international participation.


Despite many international athletes on the start line of the ECA European Open Canoe Slalom Cup on the Vltava River, Czech paddlers won majority of the medals at their home course.
 
In women’s kayak final Czech competitors recorded a triple win. Katerina Bekova took the win 0.31 seconds ahead of Amalie Hilgertova who had a touch and two penalty seconds. Veronika Vojtova was third, 1.87 seconds behind Bekova.
 
Czech paddlers dominated women’s C1 event as well. Eva Rihova won gold medal 1.81 seconds ahead of Tereza Kneblova, while Jana Matulkova finished third.
 
Jakub Krejci was the fastest kayaker in men’s event. He picked up two penalty seconds during this final run, however he was still a little less than a second and a half faster than Benjamin Renia from France who was second. David Patterson from Great Britain was third.  
 
The only non Czech win was produced by France’s Martin Thomas in men’s C1 final. The French representative won with a tight difference of 0.07 seconds ahead of Nejc Polencic from Slovenia. Martin Kratochvil from Czech Republic was third.
