Czech Republic, France, Germany, Italy and Great Britain took gold in classic events in Banja Luka 27.8.2022

On the third competition day of the 2022 ECA Junior and U23 Wildwater Canoeing European Championships in Banja Luka, Bosnia and Herzegovina, young athletes competed in classic events. Members of Czech and French teams again dominated the races. Gold medals also went to Italy, Germany and Great Britain.


The two strongest nations of the Wildwater Canoeing took majority of the medals on the third competition day in Banja Luka when Junior and U23 Individual Classic races were on the programme.
 
Matous Beier and Ondrej Vesely took a double win for the Czech Republic in men's junior C1 event, while Gaetan Rousseau from France came in third.
 
Czech Republic celebrated second junior European champion title in men's junior kayak event. Matyas Novak crossed the finish line 16 seconds ahead of Slovenia's Tjas Til Kupsch, the 2022 junior wildwater sprint European champion, and Dimitri Tostain from France was third in this event.
 
Anna Retkova, Jana Strlikova and Michaela Anna Zednickova were triple Czech winners in women's C1 classic event. The same thing happened in men's C2 junior event where three Czech crews took the top three positions: Ondrich - Vejnar were first, Rasner - Vanek second and Nemec - Vesely third.
 
French canoeist Charles Ferrion added U23 men's C1 European Champion title in classic to the sprint title he won on Friday on the Vrbas River. This time he was almost half a minute faster than his opponents. Karel Rasner from Czech Republic was second and Mathis Perreau from France third.
 
Augustin Reboul and Clement Monjanel were the double French European Champions in men's K1 U23 classic event. Vojtech Matejicek from Czech Republic was third.
 
France celebrated a double win also in men's U23 C2 event, with Roussin - Roussin reaching the highest podium position and Combe - Monjalen finishing second. Muller and Bretscher from Switzerland were third.
 
Italian canoeist Cecilia Panato won two gold medals on Saturday. First, she was unbeatable in women's C1 classic event, where Tereza Kneblova (CZE) and Alice Panato (ITA) won silver and bronze medal respectively, and later in the day Cecilia Panato took another win in women's C2 together with her sister Alice. Christie sisters from Great Britain were second in this event, and Swiss duo Mueller - Clavadetscher was third.
 
It was a good day for Kerry Christie. Not only did she win silver in women's C2 classic race, she is the new women's U23 kayak classic race European Champion. In this event she produced six and a half seconds faster time than Hannah Mueller (SUI) in second place. Tereza Kneblova (CZE) was third.
 
Marlene Wesseling from Germany was the winner of women's junior K1 classic race. Kristina Novosadova from Czech Republic was second (+18,36) and Italian Maya Bagnato third.
 
On Sunday, the championships will conclude with team classic races.
