Czech Republic showed no mercy on Soča River

Czech Republic showed no mercy on Soča River 16.5.2019

Paddlers of Czech team were the absolute winners of the second competition day of the 2019 ECA Wildwater Canoeing European Championships in Slovenian Soča Valley. They have won European Champion titles in all three team classic races – men’s kayak and canoe, and women’s kayak events.

Martina Satkova, Anežka Paloudova and Klara Hricova produced an excellent run in women’s kayak classic team event to win the European Champion title on Soča River. Czech paddlers were more than 20 seconds faster than any other team on the start of this event.  Silver medal in women’s kayak classic race went to France thanks to Lise Vinet, Charlene Le Corvaisier and Phenicia Dupras. German representatives Alke Overbeck, Janina Pisakowski and Lisa Koestle picked up bronze medal.
Similar scenario was seen in men’s canoe classic team race. Czech canoeists Ondrej Rolenc, Vladimir Slanina and Marek Rygel were considered favourites before the race and they did not let down their fans. French team with Tony Debray, Louis Lapointe and Stephane Santamaria crossed the finish line with 15 seconds slower time to win the silver medal, while Croatian team with Emil Milihram, Ivan Tolić and Igor Gojić won bronze medal in this event.
The final team race of the day was the most stressful. Men’s Czech kayak team did win at the end, but Slovenians were only 3.20 seconds behind. Adam Satke, Karel Slepica and Kamil Mružek won the third gold medal of the day for Czech Republic. Simon Oven, Anže Urankar and Tim Novak won the fourth medal of the championships at their home course for Slovenia, while Italy with Francesco Ciotoli, Andrea Bernardi and Nicolo Razeto won bronze medal.
The 2019 ECA Wildwater Canoeing European Championships in Bovec will continue on Friday with Wildwater Sprint Canoeing heats, which will start at 10:00 local time.
