European teams once again showed this continent is the strongest in canoe slalom. In the 38th edition of the Canoe Slalom World Championships that took place in Pau, France, representatives of European nations picked up majority of the medals – 30 altogether. Czech Republic finished the championships with a total of eight medals – three gold, two silver and three bronze. France was second in medal count with five medals (two gold, two silver and a bronze), while Great Britain picked up two gold and a silver medal. Athletes from Germany, Slovakia, Slovenia, Austria and Italy also won medals in the Pau-Pyrenees Whitewater Stadium.
For the first time after 1981 C2 mix event was also part of the championships programme and Extreme Slalom made a debut at the World Championships, after being introduced at World Cups in 2016.
