Czech Republic wins six gold medals on the last day of Junior and U23 Wildwater Canoeing European Championships 28.8.2022

The 2022 ECA Junior and U23 Wildwater Canoeing European Championships in Banja Luka, Bosnia and Herzegovina, came to an end with classic team events. Czech Republic was without any competition, winning six gold medals out of possible eight. France and Switzerland also won gold medals today.


The golden Czech day on the Vrbas River started in the first event - women's junior kayak team classic. Kristina Novosadova, Anna Retkova and Michaela Zenickova were in the finish 1.81 seconds faster than Italian team with Maya Bagnato, Francesca Grossa and Marta Cecconi. France with Nina Lloret Linares, Eve Vitali-Guilbert and Noa Pradalier won bronze medal.
 
Matej Vanek, Ondrej Vesely and Matous Beier put down the best team run in men's junior team classic event, finishing the race more than a minute ahead of Italians Stefano Mapelli, Pietro Toniola and Cesare Lorenzo Scapini. Slovak canoeists Bruno Zuzik, David Staffen and Jaromir Ivanecky were third.
 
Klara Vankova, Zuzana Sziadkova and Tereza Kneblova were the fastest in women's U23 kayak team classic event. Two seconds behind were Italians Marta Ceccon, Cecilia Panato and Maya Bagnato, and bronze went to Germany with Alina Zimmer, Elisabeth Koestle and Maria Weber.
 
Czech Republic won gold medal in men's U23 kayak classic team event thanks to Vojtech Matejicek, Filip Novak and Jan Sindelar. Augustin Reboul, Clement Monjanel and Louis Forgeard from France were second, and Belgians Joren Bogaerts, Alban Duvivier and Lean Bogaerts third.
 
In women's U23 canoe classic team event Marie Nemcova, Tereza Kneblova and Anna Retkova won the race almost half a minute faster than other teams on the start. Silver medal went to France with Zaura Malinge, Laura Fontaine and Margot Beziat, while Swiss team with Hannah Mueller, Glenys Ettlin and Mona Clavadetscher won bronze medal.
 
The last gold medal for Czechs vcame in the last event of the championships - men's U23 C2 classic team race. The Czech team was composed by Vejnar - Ondrich, Rasner - Vanek and Nemec - Vesely. French squad Roussin - Roussin, Combe - Monjanel and Tostain - Payen was second, and the third place was occupied by the Swiss crews Clavadetscher - Bretscher, Arnstad - Muller and Fehlmann - Gutknecht.
 
Switzerland celebrated European Champion title in men's junior kayak classic team race. Aaron Schmitter, Patrick Gutknecht and Nicolas Fehlmann were the ones who found the fastest lines on the Vrbas River. Italians Lorenzo Corti, Matteo Muzio and Matteo Bottini were just 0.69 behind to win silver medal, while bronze went to French kayakers Dimitri Tostain, Noel Leandre Bauleandre and Loig Massot.
 
French canoeists in the U23 age group Charles Ferrion, Matteo Zanni and Mathis Perrau were the best to win the team European Champion title ahead of Czech representatives Alva Beier, Karel Rasner and Petr Smakal. Slovenians Nejc Gradisek, Martin Gale and Aljaz Marko Golob were third, like in the sprint team event.
