Darko Savić will compete in the colours of Serbia

Darko Savić will compete in the colours of Serbia 1.3.2022

Paddler Darko Savić who was competing under the flag of Bosnia and Herzegovina in canoe sprint, wildwater canoeing and canoe slalom will follow his sport dreams under the new flag. As he also holds Serbian passport from 2013 on he will represent this country in extreme slalom competitions.

“I went through everything in my career. Now a new opportunity has opened up to compete in a new discipline. The races are held on venues where I have already competed in slalom, and this is a combination of both wildwater canoeing and slalom. I think I have something to show. As a Banja Luka resident, I can say that Vrbas is ideal for training, and I think that with the cooperation with the Canoe Federation of Serbia, I can move my own limits. I also hope for great results. For years, I have been training and hanging out with almost all members of the Serbian national team in all disciplines, and for me, Serbia is a second home. I know how the Serbian kayak family works and I am very happy to be a part of that team now. Maybe that's why I feel that my motivation is at a higher level than before,” Savić said after the meeting with president of the Canoe Federation of Serbia, Mirko Nišović.

Mirko Nišović, a legend of canoe sprint, is satisfied with Darko Savić's wish to compete in Serbian colours: “With the arrival of Savić, we will try to make a step forward in extreme slalom, which is a new discipline that awaits us in Paris in 2024. Darko is an experienced competitor, and he also has the desire and will to try out in the new discipline, and I am glad that we can support him. It is also important that Darko is from Republika Srpska and somehow it is most normal for him to come and paddle for the Serbian national team, and we will support him so that he can progress, and it would be great if we had representatives at the Olympic Games in wild water.”
