Defending champions make strong start to 2023 ECA Canoe Polo Clubs European Championships 7.10.2023

A month after Brandenburg hosted the 2023 ECA Canoe Polo European Championships, the eyes of canoe polo community are on the 2023 ECA Canoe Polo Clubs European Championships which is held this weekend in Arcos de la Frontera, Spain.


The defending champions from last year’s ECA Canoe Polo Clubs European Championships in Belfast, ASD Pro Scogli Chiavari in men’s tournament and Polisportiva Canottieri Catania ASD in women’s part of the tournament started well on day one of the Clubs European Championships. e
 
The Italian team Polisportiva Canottieri Catania ASD recorded five wins in women’s tournament on the opening day of the 2023 ECA Canoe Polo Clubs European Championships in Spain. They have defeated KV Keistad twice (2-1, 4-3), the same was in two matches with  Thurgauer Wildwasser Fahrerinnen (5-0, 4-1). Italian team also beat Spanish representatives from Deportiva Pinatarense (3-2), who won bronze medal last year.
 
Equally successful were players of ACC Hamburg. Germans recorded a high win in a match against Irish team Wildwater Kayak Club (9-0), while their second match ended with a 5-1 win for German team. ACC Hamburg also won against Dutch team KV Keistad (8-2) and against Spanish team Deportiva Pinatarense (6-0, 3-1).
 
Avranches, the French team which won silver medal in women’s tournament in 2022, won four matches on day one against Club Alaques (3-0, 7-1), Neptun (6-2) and against PSC Coburg (4-1). In a second match against PSC Coburg the match ended with 3-3.
 
Acigne (FRA) won in matches with Neptun and Kingston Ladies, but was defeated with PSC Coburg (1-3).
 
In men’s tournament, Italian team Pro Scogli Chiavari made a good start to defend their 2022 European Champion title. They played four matches and won them all. First they won in a match with Neptun (DEN) with a final result 3-2, then continued with 5-1 win against Kingston (GBR), 3-2 win against Montpellier (FRA) and 3-0 win against Viking Venlo (NED).
 
Last year’s silver medallists Avranches (FRA) won four matches and played 2-2 with TKC Turnhout. The match with Annalong Canoe&Kayak Club ended with a score 8-1, CKB Oeiras lost 1-4, the match with Canottieri Catania was more intense as Avrances celebrated 5-4 win, while the match with Thurgauer Wildwasserfahrer ended with 8-4 in favour of French team.
 
KSVH Berlin, who won bronze medal last year, played four matches and won them all. Germans celebrated 6-2 win against Portuguese representatives Clube Fluvial de Coimbra, Napoli lost 3-2, Ulster Canoepolo Club was defeated with a result 12-4 and Reitro with a final result 10-4.
 
FOA Liverpool (GBR) also concluded a day with a perfect score. They defeated Rodeira (6-5), Kanupolo Zurich (3-2), MKC Duisburg (3-2), Ieper (6-2) and AKV Odysseus (5-2).
 
The tournament continues on Sunday, when medals matches are scheduled in the afternoon.
