The 2019 ECA Junior and U23 Canoe Slalom European Championships in Liptovsky Mikulaš, Slovakia, kicked off with heats in men's canoe and women's kayak junior and U23 events. The fastest competitors of the day were Martin Dodok, Tereza Fišerova, Adrien Fischer and Bethan Forrow.
Martin Dodok, 20-year-old canoeist from the local club in Liptovsky Mikulaš, produced the best time in men's U23 canoe heats and was one of the two Slovak paddlers among the top three in this event. Marko Mirgorodsky finished the first competition day of the 2019 ECA Junior and U23 Canoe Slalom European Championships in third place. Czech competitor Vaclav Chaloupka squeezed himself between the two Slovaks to secure a place in the semifinal with second best time in heats.
The fastest kayaker in women's U23 event was Czech representative Tereza Fišerova. She was 1.35 seconds faster than French paddler Marjorie Delassus and 2.07 second faster than German representative Anna Faber who was third in the heats.
Young French canoeist Adrien Fischer set the fastest time in junior MC1 heats. He was the only one in this event who crossed the finish line in less than 100 seconds. Pau Echaniz from Spain was second and Nejc Polenčič from Slovenia third in these heats.
British paddler Bethan Forrow won in the last event of the day. She was the fastest in women's Junior kayak heats. Antonie Galuškova from Czech Republic was second and Elizaveta Terekhova from Russia third.
On Friday women's C1 and men's K1 heats in junior and U23 categories will be held in the morning part of the programme. In the afternoon we will follow all the team races.
