Double Spanish and British wins at the Canoe Slalom World Cup Final in Spain 23.9.2024

The 2024 ICF Canoe Slalom World Cup series season concluded with the final race at the 1992 Olympic venue in La Seu d’Urgell. The last gold medals went to Spain, Great Britain, Czechia and Australia.

Host nation of the final Canoe Slalom World Cup race of the season 2024 celebrated two gold medals thanks to legendary Maialen Chourraut and Miquel Trave. Chourraut produced the best final run in women’s kayak final, finishing the race ahead of Slovenia’s Eva Tercelj and Evy Leibfarth (USA). It was the first World Cup gold for Chourraut since 2017, a year after she won Olympic gold in Rio. “I just wanted to go out and do my best, to be myself. I’m just so grateful for all the slalom family and all the paddlers and the crowd. It was a pleasure to be in La Seu, and to do my best at the end of a long season,” said Spanish kayaker.

Her compatriot Miquel Trave continued with excellent performances on his home course. He was the fastest in men’s canoe final, where Ryan Westley (GBR) won silver medal and legendary Michal Martikan (SVK) finished third. It was the 45-year-old’s first World Cup medal since 2017. Trave, the winner, said after the race, “It was a really tough run, especially after I touched gate four. It’s so wonderful to win here, with all of the city coming down here to support me. It’s absolutely incredible, I just kept fighting all the way.”

Jiri Prskavec (CZE) was the best in men’s kayak final. Mathieu Desnos, representing Brazil, was second, while bronze medal went to the hands of Italian Giovanni De Gennaro, 2024 Olympic and European Champion.

Australia’s Jessica Fox was the best in women’s canoe final, where Gabriela Satkova (CZE) won silver medal and Kimberley Woods (GBR) picked up bronze.
