The ECA Board of Directors confirmed the differences between the ICF and ECA Canoe Slalom Competition Rules, which will be used in the season 2024. Some of the rules changes apply only for Senior Championships, while others will be in use at both Senior and Junior/U23 Canoe Slalom European Championships.
One of the most important differences between the ICF and ECA Canoe Slalom competition rules states that the national federation has a possibility to enter to the European Championships a defending European Champion from the season 2023 in addition to the three athlete quota in this event as it is stated in the ICF competition rules. This means that each of the national federations that had an European Champion in one of the individual six events of the European Games Krakow-Malopolska (Germany, Czechia, Great Britain, Ukraine) can enter three athletes in particular event + the defending 2023 European Champion in this event. This rule only applies to the Senior Canoe Slalom European Championships.
Another important difference is the progression system which will be standardised across genders and classes. The number of athletes progressing to the next stage of the competition will be as follows:

And another important novelty comes in kayak cross. The Kayak Cross Time Trials will be known as Women’s and Men’s Sprint Cross events and will be a new medal events. This means we will get the Sprint Cross European Championships on Saturday, and then on Sunday the Kayak Cross elimination phase (1/4 final to final) will follow.
