ECA Open Canoe Slalom European Cup in Tacen also selection race for three nations 20.4.2023

This weekend, Ljubljana – Tacen will host the ECA Open Canoe Slalom European Cup as a part of the ICF World Ranking Race and the competition will serve as a part of the selection process for the Slovenian, Italian and Croatian canoe slalom national team.


For Slovenian paddlers on both days the first run will count as a selection race (Saturday – 1st heats run, Sunday – semifinal), and the remaining two selection races will be held a week later in Krakow. Benjamin Savšek, Luka Božič and Peter Kauzer are prequalified to the Slovenian national team in canoe slalom based on the last year’s success, while Ajda Novak and Eva Terčelj are prequalified in the kayak cross. For the Italian national team the race this weekend in Slovenia will be a second one, while the final selection race will be in Ivrea on 29th April.
 
In addition to all the best Slovenian and Italian paddlers as well as Croatian representatives, competitors from the Netherlands, Austria, France, Canada and Hungary will compete on the Sava River this weekend.
 
On Saturday, the heats will begin at 10.00, when the women’s canoe and men’s kayak events are on the programme. The second heats run of the men’s K1 is scheduled for 12:00. In the afternoon part of the schedule, starting at 13:55, the heats in women’s kayak and men’s canoe will be held, while the second heats run will start at 15:15.
 
On Sunday, at 10.00, those Slovenian paddlers who will not qualify for the semi-finals of the European Cup will be the first to paddle down the course, and with this run they will gain a result for the selection races, and at 10.30 the semi-final races of the ECA Open Canoe Slalom European Cup will follow. Here, women’s canoe paddlers will compete first to qualify for the finals, followed by semi-final runs in men’s and women’s kayak and men’s canoe. At 14.30, the finals of all events are scheduled, and at 16:20 the awards ceremony will conclude the competition weekend.
