ECA president Albert Woods OBE visited Baku 21.11.2022

Albert Woods OBE, President of the European Canoe Association, visited Baku on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the National Olympic Committee. Within the framework of the visit, a meeting was held between Albert Woods and the leadership of the Azerbaijan Canoe and Rowing Federation (AKAF). 


During the meeting Vugar Ahmadov, the head of the Azerbaijan Canoe and Rowing Federation, exchanged views on various topics with the president of the ECA. Albert Woods was told about the care shown by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva to sports and athletes in the country. It was noted that during the years of independence, Azerbaijani athletes achieved high achievements in many international competitions, World and European championships, as well as in Olympic Games, both in other sports and in canoeing. 
 
At the same time, the current stage of development of canoeing was discussed. It was reported that Azerbaijan Canoe and Rowing Federation organized several competitions in 2022.  Among these competitions are the "President's Cup" dedicated to the 99th anniversary of the birth of national leader Heydar Aliyev on May 6-7 and the "Mingachevir Regatta" held on October 21-23.
 
Discussions were also held with Albert Woods, the president of the European Canoe Association, about the future action plans of AKAF. Expressing his satisfaction with the mutual meeting, Albert Woods wished Azerbaijan Canoe and Rowing Federation success in its future activities. He noted that there will be support for the international competitions to be organized.
 
Mr. Albert Woods also met with Dr. Farid Gayibov, the Minister of Youth and Sports and president of the European Gymnastics federation, during his stay in Azerbaijan.
