European Canoe Association and the organisers of the “Sup Alps Trophy” agreed in a cooperation to organise common SUP events

20/04/2017 - Following the growing importance of SUP events as a part of several Canoe disciplines the European Canoe Association announced an agreement about cooperation with the organisers of the “Sup Alps Trophy” in Germany.

The European Canoe Association (ECA) has already organised plenty of SUP events around Europe at a high level together with National Canoe Federations. Therefore the ECA is driving the trend that SUP becomes an important part of Canoe activities in a lot of European National Canoe Federations and that athletes from other Canoe disciplines discover SUP as an exciting sport for themselves. To extend the activities and to enable athletes from National Canoe Federations the opportunity to compete with professional athletes which are supported by manufactures the European Canoe Association sanctioned the “Sup Alps Trophy”, organised by a private company, as an official ECA SUP Cup 2017.
The “Sup Alps Trophy” consists of four events which will take place in three Alps countries from May 2017 until September 2017. The final of the “Sup Alps Trophy” will take place on September 23rd in Bernau Felden, Germany, at the lake Chiemsee. This competition is also confirmed as an official ECA-SUP Cup and will welcome the best individual paddlers as well as the best European Canoe SUP paddlers.
“It`s important to follow with our cooperation with a private organiser the trend to unify the SUP community around Europe. Until now the European Canoe Association did a lot to improve the level of SUP competitions under the umbrella of our Association. With cooperation with private organisers our best Canoe SUP athletes can now compete with other professional athletes under consideration that  some of the competing SUP athletes are individuals which are supported by SUP manufactures and SUP dealers” said ECA President Albert Woods in a statement regarding the cooperation.
