European canoe sprinters dominate in World Ranking

European canoe sprinters dominate in World Ranking 11.2.2024

International Canoe Federation published the latest edition of canoe sprint World Ranking, which is published twice a year. In January edition of the rankings European Canoe Sprinters dominate across all events, Polish athletes are at the top in ¼ of the events.


Poland proves to be a canoe sprint super power and confirms it with standings in the last edition of the World Ranking. The rankings are calculated per person for individual and per National Federation for team boats. The latest edition includes the following competitions: 2023 ICF Canoe Sprint World Cup Szeged (HUN), 2023 ICF Canoe Sprint World Cup Poznan (POL), 2023 ICF Junior and U23 Canoe Sprint World Championships Auronzo (ITA), 2023 European Games (European Championships, Krakow (POL), 2023 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships Duisburg (GER), 2023 ICF Canoe Sprint World Cup Paris (FRA) and 2023 CAC Canoe Sprint African Championships Abuja (NGR).
 
Poland leads the way in ranking with Justyna Iskrzycka taking the top position in WK1 1000 m event, also at the top is women’s K2 200 m crew, Wiktor Glazunow in men’s C1 1000 m event, MC2 500 m duo, MC2 1000 m crew, MC4 500 m crew and mixed C2 500 m duo. Polish kayaker Dominika Putto shares the first place in women’s K1 200 m event with Slovenian Špela Ponomarenko Janić.
 
Portuguese star Fernando Pimenta is leading in men’s K1 500 m rankings, he is second in MK1 1000 m ranking and this in the MK1 5000 m event. At least one competitor or boat at the top of the World Ranking comes from the following European countries: Poland, Hungary, Denmark, Portugal, Sweden, Slovenia, Germany, Italy, Georgia, Romania, Ukraine and Moldova.
