European Champion Mallory Franklin suffered an injury

European Champion Mallory Franklin suffered an injury 30.11.2022

The reigning 2022 women’s canoe European Champion Mallory Franklin has suffered an injury during the preparation for the very important season 2023 in which the Olympic qualifiers and Canoe Slalom World Championships will be held on her home course in London Lee Valley.

Last week I had a small mishap during a session that resulted in me fracturing my right hand, of all the weird and wonderful things I've done in my boat, this was one of the least interesting and probably one of the most unlucky. Due to how it broke I needed surgery, the first one of my life, which in itself was a little daunting, but here we are, with a bit of added hardware. Now starts my recovery period, it's going to be the longest I've been out of my boat and unable even to hold a paddle, but I'll get through this and be back soon,” wrote Franklin on the Instagram.

The 28-year-old paddler from Windsor has had a very successful season this year. In addition to her individual European Champion title in C1, she picked up bronze medal in kayak and silver medal in extreme slalom at Europeans in Liptovsky Mikulaš as well as silver medal in kayak team event. The Tokyo Olympic Vice-Champion won two bronze medals at World Championships in C1 individual and team events, and five medals in the 2022 World Cup series.
