European Champions Fernando Pimenta and Martin Fuksa win at special canoe sprint race in China 18.9.2018

Some of the world’s best canoe sprinters, such as European senior champions Fernando Pimenta and Martin Fuksa and reigning European U23 Champion Carlo Tacchini as well as Polish star Marta Walczykiewicz competed at a special event that was held today in China. Two special events, this one in China, and one following later this week in Russia, bring new competition concept with 600 and 350 metres events and special 100 meters event where male and female athletes will be randomly paired to race in mixed C2 and K2 boats as well as special prize money fund.


In Linyi, China, canoe sprinters took part in the 600 metres event, where European and World Champion Fernando Pimenta (POR) won in the men’s kayak event. This race was filled with stars that have several Olympic, World and European Championships medals in their pocket. He finished the exciting race ahead of France’s Maxime Beaumont, Germany’s Tom Liebscher and Spain’s Roi Rodriguez.
 
In men’s canoe event multiple European and World Champion Martin Fuksa from Czech Republic showed the best form to finish the race ahead of Polish paddler Tomasz Kaczor and Chinese representative Pengfei Zhend.
 
In women’s kayak race Belorussian competitior Volha Khudzenka occupied second position, behind New Zealand’s Caitlyn Ryan and ahead of Australian Alyce Burnett.
 
The only category without European representative at the podium was women’s C1 where Laurence Vincent Lapointe and Katie Vincent took the double win for Canada and Shixiao from China finished third.
